New Delhi, June 5, 2025 — The Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation Ltd (GCMMF), India’s largest dairy cooperative and marketer of the iconic Amul brand, has officially launched Amul Milk in Spain, marking a significant milestone in its international expansion.
The launch is part of a strategic partnership with Cooperativa Ganadera del Valle de los Pedroches (COVAP), one of Spain’s leading first-tier farmer cooperatives. Through this alliance, Amul Milk will initially be available in Madrid and Barcelona, with expansion planned to other key cities including Malaga, Valencia, Alicante, Seville, Córdoba, and even Lisbon in neighboring Portugal.
A special launch event was held at the Embassy of India in Madrid, attended by senior dignitaries including Dinesh K. Patnaik, Ambassador of India to Spain; D. Fernando Heredia Noguera, Deputy Director for International Relations at Spain’s Ministry of Agriculture; and Ricardo Delgado Vizcaíno, President of COVAP. Also present were Jayen Mehta, Managing Director of GCMMF, and senior officials from Amul and its Spanish channel partners.
Speaking at the launch, Jayen Mehta expressed confidence in the partnership:“This association with COVAP will ensure our Spanish consumers are nourished and energized with the goodness of Amul Milk.”
The product being introduced is Amul Gold Full Cream Milk, packaged in tetra packs with a shelf life of six months. Product placement has already commenced in retail outlets across the initial launch cities.
Following a successful rollout of fresh milk in the United States last year, GCMMF’s expansion into Spain and Portugal is part of a broader international strategy. The federation also plans to launch Amul milk and dairy products in Germany, Italy, and Switzerland in the near future.
During the last fiscal year, GCMMF registered an 11% growth in revenue, reaching ₹65,911 crore, driven by strong volume growth across all categories.
With 3.6 million dairy farmers, Amul is the world’s largest farmer-owned dairy cooperative. It processes over 12 billion liters of milk annually, operates 112 dairy plants across India, and handles 42 million liters of milk per day. Amul has been ranked as the world’s strongest dairy brand and is India’s largest consumer product group brand, with a turnover exceeding $11 billion.
Founded in 1959 and headquartered in Pozoblanco, Córdoba, COVAP is a major player in Spain’s agri-food sector. With over 2,000 active farmer-members, it operates one of Europe’s most technologically advanced dairy facilities, processing over 400 million liters of milk annually and exporting to more than 30 countries, including the US, UK, and several Asian markets.
