A significant two-day celebration of World Food Safety Day 2025 was wrapped up by the National Institute of Food Technology Entrepreneurship and Management, Kundli (NIFTEM-K), an Institute of National Importance under the Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI), with a number of noteworthy activities meant to raise awareness of food safety and encourage scientific participation. The events, which had as their theme “Food Safety: Science in Action,” demonstrated NIFTEM-K’s dedication to promoting a safer food ecosystem through expert discussion and grassroots outreach, the Ministry of Food Processing Industries announced on Sunday.
In partnership with the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), NIFTEM-K hosted a thorough food safety awareness session for more than 100 street food vendors and small business owners from Sonipat and Delhi NCR on June 6. Under the direction of the Department of Interdisciplinary Science, NIFTEM-K, the workshop taught participants about important aspects of food hygiene, such as the value of cleanliness and personal hygiene, safeguarding food from mice and flies, and following safe food handling protocols.
Additionally, vendors were made aware of the importance of securing the appropriate permits and adhering to legal criteria in order to guarantee the legitimacy and legality of their food enterprises. A live presentation of the rapid adulteration testing kits for milk and milk products, spices, and tea that NIFTEM-K created was one of the workshop’s highlights. In order to strengthen their involvement in maintaining food safety regulations and fostering consumer confidence, participating vendors were given certificates of participation at the end of the session.
At the conclusion of the two-day session, there was a single call to action: to make food safety a national priority that is ingrained in public awareness, education, research, and policy. As a national pioneer in advancing food safety via innovation, education, and capacity building, NIFTEM-K reaffirmed its dedication to establishing a more secure and healthful food environment for everybody.
