A 10-minute food delivery service has been introduced in a few areas of Bengaluru by BigBasket, the Tata Group’s grocery delivery platform, which has entered the fast food delivery market.
This action was taken five months after CEO and cofounder Hari Menon revealed the company’s growth intentions on social media site X. Menon said in December 2024 that BigBasket would be expanding its offerings in 2025 by going into the food delivery business, starting pharmaceutical deliveries in partnership with Tata 1mg, and growing its inventory to over 30,000 products in tier I cities.
At the moment, the company’s 10-minute delivery service offers food from Qmin, a food delivery platform run by Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL), and Starbucks, a joint venture between Tata Consumer Products and Starbucks Corporation.
Customers can use the Qmin standalone app to place orders from a network of Tata-owned hotels and restaurants. Qmin was introduced in 2020 by IHCL, a Tata Sons firm. Qmin Cafes, which serve beverages and baked goods, are also run by it. In Bengaluru, there are presently eleven Qmin stores open.BigBasket’s new 10-minute service offers meal bowls, snacks, and desserts in addition to drinks like coffee, tea, and juice.
Platforms like Zepto, Swiggy, and Blinkit are expanding their food delivery verticals, making the fast-delivery market more competitive.During its Q4 FY25 earnings, Zomato, through its parent company Eternal, revealed that it is growing Bistro, its quick food delivery service, while decreasing its dependency on outside restaurant relationships. Bistro presently runs more than 100 kitchens and is engaged in the Bengaluru, Mumbai, and Delhi-NCR regions.
Swiggy is expanding Bolt, a 10-minute delivery service that partners with specific eateries that have set menus. Under the Snacc brand, it also runs a parallel service that is comparable to Bistro.Due to supply chain issues, Zepto reportedly had to halt operations in 44 outlets in places like Delhi, Agra, Chandigarh, Mohali, Amritsar, and Meerut. At the same time, the company encountered operational difficulties in its fast food segment, Zepto Cafe.
In keeping with the wider trend in India’s retail and food delivery ecosystem towards ultra-fast service models, BigBasket’s most recent offering puts it in line with an expanding list of companies aiming to attract urban consumers looking for immediate dinner options.
