The company aims to cater to the growing demand for plant-based alternatives in the US market with its wide range of jackfruit-based products.

Wakao Foods, a prominent plant-based food company, proudly announces the successful shipment of its largest-ever consignment of renowned jackfruit products, weighing a whopping 13 tonnes. This marks the commencement of Wakao Foods’ venture into the United States market, with the first of two containers being sent across. The flag-off ceremony took place on June 22nd at Kochi Port, India, in the presence of esteemed individuals including Rajesh Agrawal, Chairman of APEDA, signifying the company’s exciting foray into the US export market.

The shipment showcases a diverse range of delectable jackfruit-based offerings, meticulously crafted by Wakao Foods. American consumers will now have the opportunity to relish the authentic flavors of Raw Jack, BBQ Jack, Indian Gravy, Continental Jack burger patties, Jack Supreme burger patties, American Herbs sausages, Hot & Spicy sausages, and Teriyaki Jack. Each product reflects Wakao Foods’ unwavering commitment to excellence, ensuring the highest quality and most delightful plant-based alternatives for customers.

Rajesh Agrawal, Chairman of APEDA, emphasized the immense potential of India’s plant-based meat alternatives market, leveraging the country’s diverse crop biodiversity. Wakao Foods’ efforts in elevating crops like jackfruit to create sustainable alternatives not only benefit farmers and address protein-related malnutrition but also diversify the protein supply while improving income opportunities for jackfruit growers.

Wakao Foods, a bootstrapped company, has diligently worked for the past eight months to decipher the taste preferences of the US market and develop products tailored specifically to suit its discerning palate. This expansion into international markets, starting with the United States, is a significant milestone for Wakao Foods, showcasing its rapid growth and entrepreneurial success.

Sairaj Dhond, the Founder and CEO of Wakao Foods, expressed tremendous excitement about entering the United States with India’s largest-ever plant-based food consignment. He looks forward to exploring the dynamic food scene in the US and believes that the vibrant food enthusiasts in the country will appreciate the authentic flavors and superior quality of Wakao Foods’ jackfruit products. This expansion marks a significant step for the company in establishing a strong presence in the United States.

Shri VK Vidyarthi, General Manager of APEDA, encouraged more companies to adopt indigenous crops for exports, farmer empowerment, and sustainability, as these crops possess immense potential to transform India’s agriculture sector, reduce waste, and contribute to climate goals.

Exporting 13 tonnes of jackfruit products represents a major milestone for Wakao Foods, reflecting their dedication to sourcing quality ingredients and providing innovative plant-based options that have garnered recognition worldwide. The company’s entry into the US market underscores its commitment to cater to the rising demand for flavorful and sustainable plant-based food choices. With its expertise in creating delectable plant-based products, Wakao Foods is well-positioned to captivate the discerning palates of food enthusiasts in New York and beyond.

Divya Saravana, Corporate Engagement Specialist at GFI India, acknowledged the significance of this shipment, emphasizing the demand for product innovation and ingredient diversification in established markets like the United States. Wakao Foods’ commendable efforts in bringing Indian-grown jackfruit to the global plant-based meat industry are truly commendable.
