Takeaway is an efficient and convenient way of getting food, but it comes with a price of harm for the environment. Most of the takeaway containers are made out of non-biodegradable substances that adversely affects the environment. Besides, such takeaway containers are being used as a one-time use material.

As an attempt to reverse the problem, new startup ventures are coming up with sustainable and resourceful alternatives of the plastic containers.

The eatery Raiz in the East Village, the food is packed in a greener way, that offers the reusable containers.

Nick Johnson, the owner of Raiz, collaborated with DeliverZero , a company that serves the 200 restaurants in New York and Colorado.

“If we can make reuse easier than recycling and more transparent, people will adopt the system,” states LaurenSweeney, the CEO of DeliverZero.

According to Sweeney, customers can return containers to any DeliverZero restaurant for sanitization and reuse for which they would be charged an amount of $1. A span of three weeks is provided to the customers to return the containers.

“We see them used at least hundreds of times. So, they’re designed for up to a thousand uses and we have a 98 percent return rate,” states Sweeney.

Dispatch Goods and Bold Reuse, the other start-up ventures are also introducing the similar practices.
