Accor, one of the world’s preeminent hospitality groups, has announced the appointment of Ranju Alex as its new Chief Executive Officer for South Asia, assuming leadership across India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. With more than 30 years of experience in the hotel industry, Alex is poised to drive Accor’s regional strategy amid a pivotal phase of expansion and consolidation.
A Storied Career in Hospitality
Ranju Alex’s distinguished journey began in 1993 with The Oberoi Group, where she laid the foundation for her ascension in the hospitality sector. Over the ensuing decades, she assumed various leadership positions within Marriott International. Most recently, she served as the Regional Vice President for South Asia, overseeing a sprawling portfolio of over 170 hotels.
Accolades to her name include the Bharat Gaurav Award, conferred earlier in 2025 in recognition of her exceptional contributions to the industry.
Strategic Leadership in a Growth Phase
Accor’s operations in South Asia are substantial, with more than 70 hotels currently active and another 30 properties in the development pipeline. Alex’s mandate will be to enhance this platform and synergize operations across the region under a unified strategic vision.
Earlier this year, Accor and Indian travel conglomerate InterGlobe revealed plans to create a joint venture, consolidating their hospitality businesses regionally into a single enterprise—pending regulatory clearances. Estimates suggest the JV aims to roll out as many as 300 Accor-branded hotels in India by 2030.
A Statement from Leadership
Gaurav Bhushan, chairman of the proposed Accor-InterGlobe venture, welcomed Alex’s appointment, stating: “We are extremely pleased and excited to welcome Ranju to the Accor and InterGlobe family. She brings a wealth of rich experience, skills and relationships into our business, and we look forward to building the foremost hospitality platform in the region under her leadership.”
Reflecting similar enthusiasm, Alex commented: “I am delighted to join an organization with the most comprehensive and exciting portfolio of brands in the region. It will be an honor to lead the Group’s vision in this region, and I eagerly look forward to this exciting role.”
Implications for the Regional Hospitality Landscape
Alex steps into her role at a time when South Asia is emerging as a dynamic hospitality market—driven by both rising domestic demand and tourism rebound. Industry analysts view her appointment as a statement of Accor’s commitment to the region and an opportunity to elevate guest experiences with consistency and innovation.
Expected benefits include cohesive service standards across properties, improved integration of loyalty programs, and more streamlined service delivery—especially once the Accor-InterGlobe JV becomes operational.
Building Toward the Future
Looking ahead, the Asia travel market is evolving rapidly. Accor, with its broad brand portfolio from luxury to economy appears well-positioned to address shifting consumer preferences. Alex’s in-depth regional insight, combined with her global operational acumen, may catalyze efforts in sustainability, digital transformation, and guest-centric innovation.
