The Federation of Hotel and Restaurant Associations of India (FHRAI), in collaboration with the Hotel and Restaurant Association Western India (HRAWI), has successfully concluded the Industry Awareness Summit on the Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Rules 2025. Held at the Omni Residency in Indore, the summit was a critical step in preparing the hospitality sector for India’s new data governance regime, emphasizing that data privacy is no longer just an IT issue but a core strategic priority.

The summit addressed the unique vulnerabilities of the hospitality industry, which handles vast amounts of sensitive guest data through online bookings, loyalty programs, and property management systems.

Compliance Frameworks: Clarity was provided on consent management, notice requirements (available in 22 Indian languages), and the rights of “Data Principals” (guests).

Data Breach Readiness: Experts detailed the mandatory protocols for breach reporting to the Data Protection Board of India and notifying affected individuals.

Special Protections: A strong emphasis was placed on the protection of children’s data and the requirements for verifiable parental consent.

Support for SMEs: The sessions were specifically designed to help small and mid-sized operators demystify complex legal requirements into actionable business steps.
