In one of the largest expansion deals in the Indian hospitality sector, Hilton has signed a strategic licensing agreement with Royal Orchid Hotels Ltd (ROHL) to develop 125 Hampton by Hilton properties across the country. This partnership is set to “supercharge” Hilton’s presence in India, specifically targeting the high-growth mid-scale segment.
The agreement focuses on capitalising on the domestic travel boom in secondary and tertiary markets, where there is an increasing demand for international-standard branded accommodation. Royal Orchid Hotels, with its deep regional expertise and established development pipeline, will act as the key partner in identifying and operationalizing these assets.
Strategic Highlights of the Partnership:
-
Massive Scale: The addition of 125 hotels will significantly expand Hilton’s current India footprint, which has traditionally been focused on luxury and upscale brands like Conrad and DoubleTree.
-
Tier-II & Tier-III Focus: The roadmap prioritizes emerging industrial hubs, pilgrimage sites, and state capitals that are currently underserved by global hospitality chains.
-
The Hampton Value Proposition: Known globally for its “Hamptonality” service culture, the brand will offer a consistent, high-quality experience featuring complimentary breakfast and modern fitness centers, tailored for both business and leisure travelers.
-
Operational Synergy: Royal Orchid Hotels will leverage its local market intelligence to navigate land acquisition and regulatory approvals, while Hilton provides the global distribution network and brand standards.
Industry Impact: Analysts view this move as a direct challenge to established domestic mid-scale players. By partnering with a local giant like Royal Orchid, Hilton is adopting an “asset-light” approach to penetrate the Indian heartland faster than its global rivals.

Alan Watts, President, Asia Pacific, Hilton, stated that India is a top-priority market for the group, and this partnership reflects their long-term commitment to providing diverse stay options across the subcontinent. Chander Baljee, Chairman and MD of Royal Orchid Hotels, added that the collaboration aligns with their vision of bringing world-class hospitality to every corner of India.
