Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL) has expanded its international footprint with the opening of Taj Gangtey Resort & Spa in Phobjikha, Bhutan. This new 35-key luxury retreat marks a significant milestone in IHCL’s sub-continental growth strategy, offering travelers a unique blend of nature and spiritual culture in one of the world’s most sought-after leisure destinations.
The resort is situated in the heart of the pristine Phobjikha Valley, known for its glacial beauty and as a winter home for black-necked cranes. The sanctuary features thoughtfully designed rooms that invite the valley’s stillness indoors. Guests can dine at ‘Vista,’ which serves authentic local flavors, or unwind at ‘The Chang Lounge & Bar’ with rare blends by a warm fire. For wellness, the resort offers the J Wellness Circle Spa, an indoor heated swimming pool, a modern fitness center, and dedicated yoga instructors.

Puneet Chhatwal, Managing Director & CEO, IHCL, highlighted the project’s strategic importance: “Building on our presence in the region, opening of Taj Gangtey Resort & Spa is in line with our strategy of growing our footprint in the sub-continent. Bhutan is a well-established leisure destination on the global tourism map offering a combination of nature and culture. We are delighted to partner with Happiness Resort & Spa for this project.”
Anan Gurung, CEO of Happiness Resort & Spa, added: “Steeped in culture and the timeless spirit of the Himalayas, Taj Gangtey Resort & Spa offers a window to Bhutan’s soul. We are proud to partner with the iconic Taj for this hotel.”
