In a significant move to enhance the “on-track” passenger experience, AI-based travel platform Ixigo has announced a strategic partnership with food-delivery giant Swiggy. This collaboration integrates Swiggy’s specialized ‘Food on Track’ service directly into the Ixigo trains app, allowing travelers to pre-order and receive meals at their seats during scheduled station halts.
The partnership aims to solve a long-standing pain point for Indian railway passengers: the limited variety and inconsistent quality of pantry-car or station-side food. By leveraging Swiggy’s extensive network of partner restaurants, Ixigo users can now choose from a wide array of cuisines ranging from local regional specialties to global fast-food brands.
How the Integration Works:
-
Seamless Booking: Passengers can browse and order food directly through the Ixigo app using their PNR number.
-
Precise Delivery: Swiggy’s delivery fleet is optimized to track train timings, ensuring that the food is delivered to the passenger’s specific coach and seat number during the designated station stoppage time.
-
Hygiene & Variety: The service offers access to FSSAI-approved restaurants, ensuring a higher standard of hygiene and a broader menu than traditional railway catering.
Strategic Impact: This move bolsters Ixigo’s transition from a ticket-booking engine to a comprehensive “travel companion” app. For Swiggy, the partnership provides access to Ixigo’s massive user base—which sees millions of monthly active users—expanding its reach into the captive audience of the Indian Railways ecosystem.
Official Statements: Spokespersons from both companies highlighted that the service will initially be available at over 60 major railway stations across India, including key hubs like New Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Pune, with plans to scale to hundreds of additional locations by the end of 2026.
