New Jersey-based restaurant launches “Modi Ji Thali” for PM Modi’s Upcoming State Visit

In anticipation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s highly anticipated state visit to the United States later this month, preparations are underway to welcome him warmly. As part of the grand reception, a New Jersey-based restaurant has crafted an extraordinary culinary delight known as the “Modi Ji Thali,” according to a report by news agency ANI. Renowned chef Shripad Kulkarni has curated this exquisite thali, featuring a diverse array of traditional Indian delicacies such as khichdi, rasgulla, sarson ka saag, Kashmiri dum aloo, idli, dhokla, chaanch, and papad.

Chef Kulkarni takes into account the preferences of the Indian diaspora living in the United States while creating this culinary masterpiece. Additionally, the thali pays homage to the declaration of 2023 as the International Year of Millets by the UN, as recommended by the Indian government. To honor this occasion, the thali includes dishes prepared using millets, adding a unique touch to the gastronomic experience.

“We plan to launch this thali soon. I’m very positive that it’s going to gain popularity. Once this does well I also plan to launch a Dr Jaishankar Thali, because he too has that rockstar appeal amongst the Indian American community,” Malhotra said. Inspired by the enthusiastic response expected from the Indian American community, the restaurateur expressed confidence that this venture will garner significant popularity.

It’s worth noting that this is not the first time a special culinary tribute has been created for Prime Minister Modi. On his birthday last year, a Delhi-based restaurant unveiled the “56-inch Modi Ji Thali” in his honor, showcasing their admiration for the esteemed leader.

Prime Minister Modi’s upcoming state visit to the United States is set to commence on June 21, following an invitation from President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden. During his four-day visit, President Biden and the First Lady will host a state dinner in honor of PM Modi on June 22.

In a related development, US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan will arrive in Delhi on June 13 for a two-day visit to discuss various issues, preceding PM Modi’s visit to the United States by one week.
