Dr. Jitendra Singh, the Honorable Minister of Science and Technology, visited McDonald’s ECE House in Delhi to commend the launch of the pioneering Multi-Millet Bun initiative by McDonald’s India (North & East). This innovative product, developed in collaboration with the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research – Central Food Technological Research Institute (CSIR–CFTRI), marks a significant breakthrough for India’s Quick Service Restaurant (QSR) industry.

Product Details and Government Alignment

The Multi-Millet Bun is crafted from a nourishing blend of five Indian millets: Bajra, Ragi, Jowar, Proso, and Kodo. These “superfood grains” are locally sourced from seven different states, including Gujarat, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh. This farm-to-table approach is what earned the Minister’s applause, as it successfully merges taste and health with sustainability while aligning directly with the government’s nationwide effort to promote millets, known as the “Shree Anna” initiative (coinciding with the International Year of the Millets).

Strategic Impact and Corporate Commitment

Sanjeev Agrawal, Chairman of McDonald’s India (North & East), stated that the multi-millet bun is a step toward blending taste with nutrition while supporting local farmers. The initiative, which began in Mumbai, is now being scaled across the region’s restaurants. This commitment to leveraging local produce not only empowers Indian farmers but also serves the broader goal of making a positive difference for both consumers and the Indian economy through sustainable and nutritious food options.
