Sarovar Hotels & Resorts, one of India’s leading hospitality chains, has unveiled an aggressive five-year expansion roadmap aimed at doubling its current portfolio. CEO Ajay Bakaya announced that the group is eyeing a milestone of 400 hotels within the next five years, a move expected to generate approximately 10,000 new employment opportunities in the sector.
The expansion strategy is primarily driven by the “Asset-Light” model, focusing on management contracts that allow the brand to scale rapidly across diverse geographies. While India remains the core market, Sarovar is also looking to deepen its presence in Africa, where it already operates successful properties in countries like Kenya and Ethiopia.
Key Pillars of the 400-Hotel Vision:
-
Regional Market Dominance: The group is doubling down on Tier-II and Tier-III cities, identifying them as the primary engines of domestic travel growth. Locations with emerging industrial corridors and spiritual tourism significance are top priorities.
-
Portfolio Diversification: The expansion will span across its key brands, including Sarovar Premiere, Sarovar Portico, and Hometel, ensuring a presence in the upscale, mid-scale, and economy segments.
-
Human Capital Development: To support the addition of 10,000 jobs, Sarovar is investing in specialized training programs and “Sarovar Academies” to bridge the skill gap in regional markets.
-
Tech-Driven Guest Experiences: New properties will integrate advanced Property Management Systems (PMS) and AI-driven guest engagement tools to maintain operational efficiency at scale.
Strategic Context The announcement comes at a time when the Indian hospitality industry is witnessing a robust recovery in both business and leisure travel. By targeting 400 hotels, Sarovar aims to leverage its legacy as a pioneer in the mid-market segment to stay ahead of international competitors entering the regional space.

Ajay Bakaya, CEO, Sarovar Hotels, stated: “Our growth is a reflection of the evolving Indian traveler who seeks quality, branded experiences in every corner of the country. Reaching 400 hotels is not just a numerical target; it’s about creating a sustainable ecosystem that provides value to our owners and meaningful careers to thousands of young hospitality professionals.”
