Taj Lake Palace, Udaipur, has officially unveiled its latest culinary masterpiece, Zhen Zhu. Replacing the former Chinese dining space, this new signature restaurant is designed to elevate the Oriental experience within the world’s most romantic hotel, offering a sophisticated menu that traverses the diverse provinces of China—from the bold heat of Sichuan to the delicate artistry of Cantonese dim sum.
The name “Zhen Zhu,” meaning “Pearl,” is a poetic tribute to the hotel’s iconic white marble architecture that appears to float like a gem upon Lake Pichola. The restaurant’s design harmoniously integrates traditional Chinese motifs with the palace’s intricate Rajputana craftsmanship, featuring hand-painted silk wallpapers, jade-inspired accents, and bespoke porcelain.
Key Culinary & Experience Highlights:
-
Authentic Flavor Profiles: Led by master chefs specializing in traditional techniques, the menu features signature dishes such as Beijing Duck (carved tableside), hand-pulled noodles, and an extensive selection of artisanal dumplings.
-
The Tea Ritual: A dedicated Tea Sommelier curates a collection of rare white, green, and oolong teas, sourced directly from high-altitude gardens in China and Darjeeling, served in a traditional ceremony.
-
Al Fresco Sophistication: Guests can choose to dine in the opulent indoor salon or on the moonlit terrace, offering 360-degree views of the City Palace and the Aravali hills across the shimmering waters.
-
Sustainable Sourcing: In line with IHCL’s Paathya initiative, Zhen Zhu emphasizes the use of locally grown organic produce from the palace’s own kitchen gardens, blended with authentic imported spices.
Area Director – Udaipur and Jodhpur, and General Manager, Taj Lake Palace, commented: “Zhen Zhu is more than a restaurant; it is a celebration of the historic cultural exchanges along the Silk Road, brought to life in the heart of Mewar. We are thrilled to offer our guests a dining experience that matches the legendary grandeur of the Lake Palace with the sophisticated complexity of authentic Chinese cuisine.”
The launch of Zhen Zhu further solidifies Taj Lake Palace’s position as a global gastronomic destination, providing a contemporary alternative to its world-renowned Indian and Continental dining options, Neel Kamal and Bhairo.
