Kerala has been home to a growing number of eco-entrepreneurs who use available resources to produce sustainable solutions for global waste management. One of them is Ardra Nair who developed a unique process that uses coir waste from the industry to produce eco-packaging for food, pharmaceuticals, and cosmetics.
Through her journey at BIRAC social innovation fellowship, she gained knowledge of sustainable solutions for waste management.
She used her research to create a process that involves grinding coir waste to the required size and compounding it using a machine to produce granules. These granules are then molded into the skeletons of the packaging, which come in various colors and are compostable.
Ardra Nair won several grants and funds for her innovation at Greenamor Ventures.
The company, Greenamor’s eco-packaging products are biodegradable, and sturdy, and address the problem of global waste management by reducing the burden on natural sources. They are made from a locally available resource that would otherwise go to waste, making them a sustainable solution for the packaging industry.
Ardra’s innovation has the potential to make a significant impact on the environment, as plastic packaging is one of the biggest contributors to global waste. In fact, a staggering 91% of the 480 billion plastic bottles sold each year end up in landfills and oceans. By using eco-packaging made from coir waste, we can reduce the amount of plastic waste that ends up in our environment and create a more sustainable future.
