According to the study, India will soon be one of the first countries to experience intense heat waves that might rise beyond the tolerance of humans.

Between two decades,1990-2019, India has become more vulnerable to extreme heat, the previous five years have been the hottest years that India has ever experienced.

Intense Heat waves would affect not just to the quality of human and animal life, but also many economic areas, such as the food industry and snacking business. Detrimental effects of heat waves are predicted to cause a tragic shortage of goods and eventually elevate the inflation.

It has negative impact on the production of animal feed, that lowers and diminishes animal productivity while causing a detrimental impact on summer crops like millet and rice.

The harm caused by heat waves is made worse by a lack of adequate cold-chain infrastructure. With approximately 4% of India’s fresh produce being protected by cold chain infrastructure, annual approximated loss as published by the World Bank, totals to an astounding $13 billion.

Heat waves pose serious threats to crop production as they can cause, stunted growth wilting, premature ripening, which reduce and deteriorates yields which leads to a major rise in the prices.Decreased crop yields, disease pressure, soil deterioration and, droughts are the combined effect.

Research and innovation, optimization of the supply chains, consumer education and diversification of products are the methods which could be employed by FMCG to cope up with the alarming effects of the heat waves.
