Hilton has announced a significant expansion in South India with the signing of the Hilton Chennai Egmore, a move that substantially bolsters the brand’s presence in Tamil Nadu and supports its aggressive growth strategy across the region.
This new property, which is slated to open its doors in January 2029, is being developed in a strategic partnership with MKR Estate Developers Private Limited, which is part of the esteemed MGM Healthcare Group. This partnership underscores Hilton’s commitment to collaborating with strong local partners to deliver world-class hospitality experiences in key Indian markets.
The Hilton Chennai Egmore will be the second property in the city for Hilton’s flagship brand, Hilton Hotels & Resorts, joining the existing Hilton Chennai. Situated in Egmore, a well-known cultural and commercial hub in Chennai, the hotel will be a key feature of a larger mixed-use development that also incorporates a commercial office complex. This advantageous location and mixed-use setting are expected to ensure a robust and consistent demand base from both business and social event sectors.
The hotel is set to offer 195 thoughtfully designed guest rooms and suites, blending Hilton’s global standards of hospitality with meticulous detail to create a welcoming and comfortable environment for all travelers.
A major highlight of the new property will be its extensive meeting and event facilities. The Hilton Chennai Egmore will feature nearly 17,000 sq. ft. of event space, including two expansive ballrooms, a dedicated meeting room, and a boardroom. This ample space is intended to position the hotel as a premium venue for corporate gatherings, large-scale conferences, and significant social celebrations right in the heart of the city.
Clarence Tan, Senior Vice President, Development, Asia Pacific, Hilton, commented that the signing “underscores the strong demand we see for our flagship brand in this region,” adding that the hotel is designed to meet the needs of Chennai’s growing base of business and leisure travelers with a mix of expansive event venues and family-friendly amenities.
Zubin Saxena, Senior Vice President and Country Head, Hilton, South Asia, further highlighted the strategic importance of the signing, noting, “Chennai is an anchor market for both business and leisure travelers, and this new property allows us to serve the city’s growing demand for elevated hospitality experiences at corporate and social events.”
M. K. Rajagopalan, Chairman, MGM Healthcare Group, expressed confidence in the partnership, stating that the collaboration with Hilton will significantly contribute to Egmore’s evolution as an urban hub and “set a new benchmark in the city’s hospitality landscape.”
The signing is aligned with Hilton’s ambitious growth trajectory in South Asia, where the company holds a robust portfolio of over 65 trading and pipeline hotels, with a goal to grow to 300 trading hotels in the next 10 years.
