The Integrated Food Safety System (IFSS) Curriculum Framework, which is the representation of the FDA Food Safety National Curriculum Standards (NCS), serves as the foundation for certifications. Specialised qualifications put the emphasis on demonstrating the applicant’s proficiency in implementing rules and regulations to either a retail or manufactured food setting.
According to Steve Mandernach, the executive director of the AFDO,the capacity to authenticate the knowledge and experience of the food safety community supports an integrated food safety system and acknowledges that the regulatory profession makes use of a wide range of abilities. In addition, this credentialing programme provides a chance to introduce the profession to many people who may not have previously thought about it.
The foundational certifications include the Food Foundations Regulator Certification (FFRC) while the specialised certifications include the Manufactured Foods Regulator Certification (MFRC) and the Retail Foods Regulator Certification (RFRC).
The FSRC certification is made for aspiring and seasoned regulatory professionals in the food safety sector, and it accurately reflects the duties and obligations of regulators.Allergens, biological risks, biosecurity, communication techniques, data and information systems, emergency preparedness, environmental risks, food/feed defence, are few of the topics covered
Professionals actively involved in the regulation of the safety of manufactured foods are eligible for MFRC certification. This specialised credential focuses on manufactured foods to evaluate proficiency in the areas of applying rules and regulations linked to the management of facilities that manufacture, process, pack, or hold foods meant for human consumption. cGMP inspections, food processing technologies, rules, regulations, and guidelines, as well as preventative controls inspections, are some of the subjects covered.
Professionals involved in the regulation of retail food safety may obtain RFRC accreditation. This specialised certification focuses on retail foods to evaluate proficiency in those areas of implementing laws and regulations linked to running retail food operations. The regulatory underpinnings of food safety for consumers at retail establishments, risk-based inspections, non-traditional food operations, and an introduction to specialised processing techniques are the topics covered.
