Indian Federation of Culinary Associations is planning to organize a conference for millets in New Delhi.
The ninth International Chefs Conference of India will take place in Delhi from October 28 to October 30, this year, under the mandate of the Indian Federation of Culinary Associations (IFCA), the nation’s topmost organization of chefs. The premier chef federation event was last held in October 2019 but was affected by the recent global pandemic in the last few years.
Accordion to Manjit Gill, the president of the Chef Federation, the international conference will be held keeping in mind the UN’s declaration of 2022 as the International Year of Millets worldwide. “The three-day conference will be dedicated to Millet. There will be 600-700 chefs and delegates from around 110 countries discussing and learning about millet. The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmer Welfare and the Ministry of Tourism will also be a vital part of the event,” he said. The three–day conference will be held at The Ashok Hotel New Delhi.
“IFCA is the apex body of the chef community in the country and the conference will provide a wide platform for spreading the word of the benefits of Millet nationwide.” Talking about the importance of Millet, Gill said, “Millet has a lot of protein. A person can’t just survive on grains like rice and wheat. They need the minerals that millet can provide. Millet also does not require any sort of water supply for its growth. It is extremely environment friendly unlike paddy, which needs a lot of water. Hence, it assures food security for the country as well.”
Since the nation’s Prime Minister personally spoke and promoted Millet in the international arena, Gill stated, there has been a great deal of interest in the chef community in product creation using Millet as the foundation. He said, “Even research and product innovations are taking place at the institutional level.”
Mentioning other plans of the IFCA in the month of October, he added, “In the month of October, the IFCA will also be organizing the International Chef Day where a lot of charity events, workshops, etc, will be organized.”
