Recently, DoubleTree by Hilton Pune – Chinchwad has made the use of wooden key cards available to customers. By ensuring that guests unintentionally end up in single-use plastics during check-in, the hotel’s efforts highlight its commitment to being eco-friendly and responsible.
“It’s time we eliminated the use of single-use plastic in our hotels and switched to more environmentally friendly options. The hospitality industry continues to evolve and prioritize sustainability, and opting for wooden hotel key cards is the way forward,” said Vinay Nair, General Manager at DoubleTree by Hilton Pune – Chinchwad. He added that “Hilton’s global environmental, social, and governance strategy is to travel with purpose. Through this, the brand seeks to create positive environmental and social impact across its operations, supply chain, and communities.”
This is a small step in the right direction, but it has far more environmental impact when combined with other activities that support the hotel’s green credentials.
The hotel has taken several other steps in the past to reduce its dependence on single-use plastic. The hotel introduced glass bottles as a standard feature in the room; plastic straws have been replaced by biodegradable materials.
Recycled wood was used to build the hotel’s Christmas tree last year. According to the hotel, it is their belief that the industry must continuously strive to minimize its environmental impact and utilize sustainable practices where possible.
