Starting in 2024, Toko Kopi Tuku (TUKU) has launched a pop-up shop in Seoul as part of its efforts to promote Indonesian coffee and gain an understanding of the market. The store also offers a range of other ice-based drinks from the menu, including Lattea Aren with sugar, Iced Cappuccino and Icedded Caramel Macchiato.
Founded in 2015, TUKU currently has 60 stores in Jakarta and Tangerang. The coffee chain has no plans to establish a permanent location in South Korea, but it is interested in exploring the emerging market.
“This is our third trip to South Korea, and with each visit, my admiration for the country’s creative industry and vibrant coffee culture grew stronger. It’s this very fascination that fuels our wish to bring with us our TUKU flavours, right from the corner of Cipete in Jakarta to Seoul, hoping not to just meet new faces, but also to learn and explore,” said Andanu Prasetyo, CEO and Founder, TUKU.
With an estimated 31,130 locations, South Korea is the second-largest branded coffee shop market in East Asia by number of outlets. According to the Project Café East Asia 2024 research from World Coffee Portal, the South Korean market as a whole expanded by 7% in the previous year and is expected to surpass 41,700 outlets by 2028.
