A delivery agent of online platform Swiggy allegedly shot dead Sunil Agarwal, who used to run Zam Zam food delivery restaurant in Greater Noida’s Mitra Society, the issue started over due to delay in getting an order ready on Wednesday. Police have arrested three people in connection with this matter: a Swiggy delivery boy, identified as Sunil and two others, Vikas Chaudhary and Devendraand. CCTV footage from the area are being checked thoroughly to track down the delivery agent.
According to police, many delivery boys were outside the restaurant when the incident took place. It all started when one of the delivery boys got into an argument with a staff member of the restaurant, adding that the owner of the eatery then intervened. Sunil and the two other accused also got into the argument, which soon heated up and the restaurant owner was then shot by one of the three accused, police said.
The restaurant employee and other staff members rushed him to Yatharth Hospital hospital where he was declared dead.
Swiggy issued a statement over the incident and said: “What has been reported is very concerning. We have reached out to the concerned authorities to help verify the identity of the individual involved in this heinous incident and if such person was associated with Swiggy”. The statement added: “All delivery partners on Swiggy are on-boarded for providing delivery services after a background verification which includes checking for any court cases or criminal antecedents and are not disincentivized for any delays.”
